An anti-fracking group has filed a lawsuit seeking a preliminary injunction that would direct the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to renew the rulemaking process for fracking. Less than a week ago, lawmakers signed off on those rules. The suit was filed Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court. The group SAFE – Southern Illinoisans Against Fracturing Our Environment claims the DNR failed to consider scientific studies while creating rules for fracking.
Ryan C. Kistner, 23 of Fairfield was arrested Tuesday night for DUI-Drugs. Wayne County Sheriff’s Police pulled Kistner’s vehicle over on Market Avenue for having a license plate light out. Failing a number of field sobriety tests, he was taken to the county jail and booked on a charge of DUI-Drugs.
The season’s first shot of cold air arrived Tuesday evening and will likely stay around until at least early next week. Forecasters have included a chance of snow in our forecast for Saturday night and into Sunday morning. There’s been no mention of any possible accumulation at this time. Low temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 20’s with highs struggling to reach the mid 30’s.
Illinois Governor-elect Bruce Rauner has named two Southern Illinois residents to his transition team. White County native and retired president of Southern Illinois University Glenn Poshard has been named to the team, along with Sarah Frey-Talley, President and CEO of Frey Farms in rural Wayne County. A native of the small White County village of Herald, Poshard served as president of Southern Illinois University from 2006 until his retirement earlier this year. He served as a 22nd District Congressman from 1989 – 1999. In 1998, Poshard, a Democrat, ran for governor and was defeated by Republican George Ryan. Sarah Frey-Talley founded Frey Produce in 1994. Headquartered in the small Wayne County village of Keenes, Frey Produce operates farms in Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Arkansas and West Virginia.
The annual Meet the Mules event will be this Friday evening. The Fairfield Mulebackers will be selling porkburgers and hotdogs starting at 5 p.m. in the gym lobby.
A member of State Representative David Reis’ staff will be in Fairfield this Friday from 8:30 – 9:30 to meet with constituents. Reis’ traveling office will be at Fairfield City Hall.
