williams, jerry Jerry L. Williams, 74, of Carmi, IL, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.  Jerry was an educator, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Science in Horticulture, and a majority of work toward his Doctorate degree in Mathematics Education, all from the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.  He later earned an additional Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Statistics from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. Throughout his teaching career, Jerry taught at the University of Illinois, University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, Parkland College, and many high schools in southern Illinois, including Carmi High School. He was an Air Force veteran, and was the Officer in Charge of the 3380th Technical School Drum and Bugle Corps. He owned and operated the retail establishment of Williams Horticulture Service for several years.  After closing the retail store, he continued his love for landscaping as a consultant for many businesses and residences in southern Illinois.

Survivors include his mother, Lois Williams of Carmi; son Carl (Michele) Williams of Clay, KY; sister Janet (John) Nichols of the United Kingdom; and his close personal friend Diana “Diya” Jarboe of Lawrenceville, IL.

Services for Jerry L. Williams will be noon Saturday, June 29 at the Cook Chapel in Carmi with military rites conducted following the funeral on the North parking lot of the Cook Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Cook Chapel in Carmi. His remains will be cremated following the services.

Memorials may be made to the Carmi Public Library and will be accepted  at the Cook Chapel in Carmi.
