Larry-EckhardtLarry “The Flag Man” Eckhardt of Little York, Ill. is now honoring America’s fallen heroes in ten states with his unique American flag display. In the beginning, Eckhardt only erected his massive flag display for Illinois men and women killed in overseas combat. Since word of his unique project spread among national veterans organization, Eckhardt now takes his flag display to the funerals of fallen heroes in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee and Ohio. Eckhardt has helped bury 109 fallen heroes so far, putting more than 70,000 miles on his flag van last year. The van he uses to transport his flag display was donated through the fundraising efforts of several groups in Wayne County.

ChargROBERTSON, JOHN Res of attempted murder, home invasion and residential burglary were re-filed Monday against 34-year-old John R. Robertson of Fairfield.  Robertson is accused of being involved in the brutal beating of Reggie Shemwell at his home last October. Robertson previously entered a guilty plea to a charge of burglary in return for the other charges being dropped. However, while out on bond, Robertson was arrested on charges of kidnapping and aggravated battery.  Special Prosecutor Michael Valentine re-filed the charges Monday. Judge Mark Stanley also revoked Robertson’s recognizance bond and re-imposed a $500,000 bond in the case.

Fairfield First Christian Church pastor Craig Scott remains hospitalized after suffering head, neck and back injuries in a body surfing accident in Puerto Rico last Saturday.  Scott has been transferred from a hospital in San Juan to a hospital in Miami, FL for advanced treatment.

Fairfield City Police are investigating an act of vandalism at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Kyle Kakac in the 400 block of S.W. Second Street. Someone shot out a window on the west entry door of the couple’s home.  The incident happened sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

35-year-old Mac Lands of Harrisburg has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in Hamilton County Circuit Court Monday to a charge of being in possession of meth. Lands was arrested after police went to arrest him on an unrelated warrant at a home in Dale and found he was in possession of meth. State’s Attorney Justin Hood says Lands will have to serve another year of parole once he gets out of prison.

25-year-old Joseph James of Carmi was sentenced Monday to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of aggravated battery. State’s Attorney Denton Aud dropped a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery in return for the guilty plea.
