As much as 7 inches of rain fell in parts of Clay County Sunday, causing flash flooding problems in Flora and Xenia. The Flora High School has been opened for residents whose homes were flooded out. More rain is in the forecast through Wednesday night. The Little Wabash at Carmi is expected to hit the 27 ft. flood stage by Saturday.
Fairfield First Christian Church pastor Craig Scott was injured over the weekend while on a youth mission trip to Puerto Rico. Scott suffered head and neck injuries and swallowed a lot of sea water as a result of a body surfing accident. Family members report he suffered a compression fracture of his neck. His wife has flown to San Juan, Puerto Rico to be with him at the hospital.
A Houston-Texas based firm plans to build a $250 million pipeline from Johnsonville to the massive tank farm at Patoka. Construction of the 30 inch line could begin next spring. Officials with Eastern Gulf Crude access, Inc. say as many as 800 construction jobs will be created.
Doctor shortages could make it difficult for residents in some Illinois counties to find medical care when the federal health overhaul kicks in. Southern Illinois counties with doctor shortages include Hamilton, Clay, Gallatin and Johnson.
Illinois lawmakers will soon be taking a pay cut. Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill Saturday that will require every member of the General Assembly to take one unpaid furlough day every month. It also stops a cost-of-living increase for next year. The law goes into effect July 1.
