AFSME, the union that represents hundreds of Illinois state workers has voted in favor of authorizing a strike. Talks between AFSME and the governor’s team stalled more than a year ago. The authorization to strike does not mean a strike is imminent. Union officials say they hope the threat of a work stoppage will be enough for the governor to send his negotiators back to the bargaining table.
42-year-old Kevin L. Hart of Fairfield has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of being in possession of more than 15 but less than 100 grams of methamphetamine. Hart was arrested in February of last year after City Police discovered a suspected meth lab in his mobile home on Spring Street.
33-year-old Melissa L. Herrin of Fairfield has been arrested on charges of aggravated domestic battery and disorderly conduct. She is accused of reaching into a vehicle and attempting to hit and choke 33-year-old Judy M. Hamilton of Geff.

The Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District will conduct its annual spring fish and tree sale. Trees will be delivered during the week of April 3.
