The Edwards County School Board met in special session Tuesday night, voting to employ Nixie Hnetkovskey as Edwards County High School  head volleyball coach.  The board also voted to accept the resignation of technology specialist Dustin Leek effective February 17.

Fairfield native Olivia Baumgardner has been hired as the new Community Development Coordinator for the Albion-based Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission.  Olivia is a graduate of Fairfield Community High School.  She holds a degree in communications studies from SIU Carbondale.

Wabash Communications in Louisville is acquiring U.S. Sonet in Salem. Barry Adair, General Manager of Wabash Communications says the acquisition will be effective the end of February or the first of March, pending regulatory approval.

Brent Legg of Iconik Studios in Fairfield will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet.  The event has been set for Monday, March 13 at the Community of Christ Church in Fairfield. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Fairfield Chamber Office.

Wabash Christian Retirement is changing its name.  The parent company was known as Christian Homes, Inc.  It will now be known as Christian Horizons. Their facility in Carmi features memory care, supportive living, independent living and short-term rehab. They also offer physical, occupational and speech therapy to all ages.

Illinois State Police say they will increase patrols for Super Bowl weekend. Last year, troopers made 200 alcohol-related arrests. That was nearly double the arrests recorded in 2015.
