Forecasters are keeping their eye on a developing storm system that could bring snow to the region by late this weekend. Meteorologists are following a system that could drop up to four inches of snow over a wide area of the Tri-State. If this system develops as forecasters expect, wintry weather could reach the region Saturday night, with the greatest chance of snow on Sunday.
The New Hope Lady Panthers finished second in the Southern Illinois Junior High School Class S State Tournament Saturday at Rend Lake College. In the low scoring game, New Hope fell to Germantown 27-26. Congratulations to the New Hope Lady Panthers for a great season.
The Fairfield Community High School junior varsity scholastic team ended their season in fourth place in the top consolation bracket in Mattoon. The tournament featured mostly Class AA teams. FCHS finishes their season with a 16-17 record.
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has vetoed a bill allowing overtime for home-care workers. The bill that passed the legislature last fall was in response to a ruling by the U.S. Department of Labor requiring payment of time-and-a-half for each hour worked over 40 hours. In vetoing the measure, Rauner cited the need to manage the significant increase in costs resulting from having to pay overtime.
Fairfield Community High School will begin offering an Early Childhood Credential Level 1 class to juniors and seniors this fall. This new educational opportunity was developed through a partnership between Jill Andrews, owner of Kiddie Kollege Early Center and the Wayne City Early Learning Center, FCHS Supt. Jill Fulkerson and Frontier Community College Dean, Dr. Paul Bruinsma.
