36-year-old Chsullivanarla Beth Sullivan of Carmi is back in jail. Sullivan is one of three defendants in the August 20 burglary of the Donna Matz home in Carmi. Sullivan previously entered a guilty plea to charges related to her role in the burglary. She was released on bond pending a January 23 sentencing. However, a warrant was issued for her arrest after she violated the terms of her home confinement conditions. Sullivan is now being held without bond pending sentencing.

Five candidates will appear on the April 4 ballot for Fairfield mayor. Candidates are David Simpson, James E. Garrett, Brent Maguire, Danny Brooks and Tim Sullivan.  Incumbent Mayor Chuck Griswold is not seeking re-election.

Dennis Turpin, the Albion City Treasurer is running for mayor of Albion. He will face a challenge from Wesley Harris in the upcoming April 4 election.  There is currently no candidate for Albion City Treasurer.

Starting January 1, the Clay County Hospital in Flora will be locking their front entry doors at midnight. Emergency room and lab services will still be in operation 24 hours a day.  Patients will have to ring in at the front entrance for assistance.

State officials have terminated the lease agreement of the operator of the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center at Whittington.  Officials with the Department of Natural Resources say the facility has a problem with mold and other safety hazards.  The operator is also delinquent in rent and lease payments by more than $200,000.
