shroyer mugA Sailor Springs man arrested last Sunday by Fairfield City Police for aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint has been sent back to state prison on a parole violation. At the time of his arrest, 25-year-old Charles L. Shroyer was on parole from two 2014 meth-related convictions in Jasper County.  Additional charges are expected in the local case as City Police continue their investigation. The alleged victim in the Fairfield case was a 29-year-old local woman.

 

Wes Hutchcraft has won the Republican Caucus for Road Commissioner in Big Mound Township. In Jasper Township, Russell Young won the caucus for Road Commissioner.  The election for various township offices will be held during the upcoming April 4 Municipal Elections.

The filing period ahead of the April 4 election starts next Monday, Dec. 12 and continues through Monday, Dec. 19.  Locally, a full slate of candidates has emerged for mayor and each of the city’s four wards.  Incumbent Mayor Chuck Griswold is not seeking re-election.

Hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 79,429 whitetail deer during the seven-day firearm hunting season that closed last Sunday.  The number is down more than 7,400 over last year’s total.  Locally, Wayne County hunters bagged 1,574 deer.

Newly installed Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza says state employees promised bonuses will have to wait to receive them during the ongoing budget impasse.  Mendoza says that checks for social service and public safety agencies will be sent out first.  In October, Gov. Rauner announced merit bonuses for over 1,000 non-union workers totaling up to $4 million.
