A judge in St. Clair County has issued a temporary restraining order blocking Governor Bruce Rauner from imposing contract terms on the state’s largest union – AFSME. Judge Robert LeChien also ordered Rauner to rescind any contract provision he has already imposed. AFSME officials are calling on the Rauner administration to return to the bargaining table to find a contract solution.
Legislative leaders have made no progress in meetings to end the state’s 18-month budget impasse. No meaningful progress has been reported between the Rauner administration and lawmakers.
24-year-old Lucian J. Theivagt of Fairfield was arrested Monday night for DUI after a neighbor caught him “cutting donuts” in his driveway with his pickup truck. Police later found Theivagt’s truck abandoned nearby.
A member of the Wayne County Amish community escaped injury this week after his horse and buggy was hit from behind by a car on the 161 extension. 75-year-old Ira Borntreger’s buggy was demolished when it was hit from behind by a car driven by 50-year-old Delores Mizzer of Springfield. No one was hurt. Mizzer was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
