The City of Fairfield has taken delivery of a new fire truck. The truck was purchased from Mid America Fire and Safety in Evansville, Indiana at a cost of $383,389. The truck is being purchased through a loan from the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office to be paid back at a rate of $17,500 per year for 20 years. The truck arrived in time to be shown off during this Saturday’s Lighted Christmas Parade.
A second suspect has entered a guilty plea in connection with the burglary of a Carmi woman’s home while she was away attending the funeral of her husband last summer. 49-year-old Michael R. Bassemier entered a guilty plea Wednesday to a charge of burglary and will be sentenced on January 30. In pleading guilty, Bassemier and co-defendant Charla Beth Sullivan have admitted they burglarized the home of Donna Matz while she was attending the funeral of her husband Hank, stealing jewelry.
Oil prices surged more than 9% Wednesday as OPEC agreed to limit production. Locally, crude oil prices shot up $4 a barrel overnight. Local refineries are now paying $42.25 for a barrel of locally produced crude oil.
Kevin Kakac will be sworn in today as Wayne County State’s Attorney. Pam Southerd will take the oath of office for Circuit Clerk, along with Coroner Jimmy Taylor. Mike Valentine will be sworn in as Edwards County’s new circuit judge. And, Eric St. Ledger will be sworn in as Edwards County’s new State’s Attorney.
