Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested 20 year old Sadie L. Preston of Mill Shoals (pictured right) and 20 year old Vanessa M. Halfacre of Fairfield (pictured left) on multiple counts of felony theft and burglary in connection with the mailbox thefts and home burglaries from earlier today. Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the subjects vehicle in Fairfield that contained numerous items related to these thefts. The Fairfield City Council has accepted a bid from Kieffer Brothers Construction in Mt. Carmel to remove a sanitary lift station from Kincaid Drive. The project will cost $149,787. The station will be replaced with a gravity flow sewer line with completion of the project expected by this fall.
The Fairfield City Council has given its approval to seek bids for a new pickup truck for the Fairfield City Police Department. The oldest of the department’s fleet of trucks will be transferred to the Fairfield Municipal Airport.
Fairfield utility officials are looking into the installation of an automated meter reading system. A proposal is expected to be presented at the next council meeting.
The cheapest gas prices in Illinois can be found in Carmi. On Tuesday, self-serve regular gas at the Hucks Convenience Store in Carmi was selling for $1.72 a gallon. Prices in Fairfield are still below $2 a gallon.
The Cisne Reunion starts today and runs through Saturday. The opening ceremony will be held at 6:30 this evening with the introduction of this year’s parade marshals – John and Darlene Hosselton. At 7 this evening, Gospel artist Joseph Habedank will perform.
