PROBATION - A Fairfield man arrested last month for battering his 7-week-old daughter has entered a negotiated guilty plea and has been placed on 18 months of probation. Shannon L. Cone, 28 (pictured) was arrested last month by Fairfield City Police on original charges of aggravated battery of an infant causing great bodily harm and a class A misdemeanor of domestic battery. In Wayne County Circuit Court Tuesday, Cone pled guilty to a negotiated class-4 felony charge of reckless conduct and was placed on 18 months of probation. He has since been released from custody after being given credit for 14 days spent in the county jail awaiting disposition of the case.
Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Larry E. Reever will be the featured speaker at this year’s Veterans Day observance in Fairfield. The event will start at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the veterans section of Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield. In the event of bad weather, the event will be moved indoors at the CP Church in Fairfield.
Fairfield Community High School students and staff are participating in the “Green Light a Veteran” program. The project calls for residents to change one light bulb on their front porch to green to show your support for veterans. Green light bulbs are available at many local retailers.
Edwards County Circuit Clerk Patsy Taylor has announced she is stepping down on November 15. In late August, Taylor announced she would not seek re-election in the 2016 General Election. It will be up to the Edwards County Commissioners to appoint a replacement to serve until the November, 2016 election.
Bond has been set at $4,000 cash on an Arkansas woman accused of attempting to falsify an application for a car title. Paula J. Trost of Pyatt, Arkansas was arrested by Carmi City Police. She remains in the city-county jail pending a court appearance.
State Representative Brandon Phelps says he will introduce legislation to keep the Hardin County Work Camp open. Gov. Bruce Rauner has ordered the facility closed in an effort to help close the state’s budget gap. The number of inmates assigned to the camp has dwindled from more than 250 to around 85.
