A Friday afternoon motorcycle crash has claimed the life of a Fairfield man. 47-year-old Richard D. Crane of rural Fairfield has died from injuries sustained in the accident which happened shortly before 3 o’clock Friday afternoon on Ill. Rt. 15 near the intersection with the old Fairfield Highway. According to witnesses, Crane was traveling eastbound on Rt. 15 when he collided with a west-bound mini-van that was attempting to make a turn. Crane was taken first to Fairfield Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to an Evansville hospital where he subsequently died.
Taylor Roosevelt, the 18-year-old daughter of Keith and Kayla Roosevelt has been crowned the Edwards County Fair Queen. She was crowned during ceremonies Saturday night. The retiring queen is Sadie Marks.
The Edwards County Fair is now in full swing. Tonight’s activities will include harness racing at 6 p.m. Entrance to the grandstand will be free, compliments of Citizens National Bank.
44-year-old Marjorie Woodward of Salem has been arrested after she allegedly tried to run over her husband several times with a SUV Friday evening. Her husband Larry was injured, but refused medical treatment.
44-year-old Jacque Lee Brown of Olney has been sentenced to 7 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a single charge of possession of pseudoephedrine pills, knowing they would be used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Carmi-based Elastec will be featured in an upcoming episode of Fox TV’s “Home Free”, hosted by professional contractor Mike Holmes. Elastec officials could only say the episode – slated to air on September 2 – will feature one of Elastec’s products.
Fairfield’s municipal fireworks display has been scheduled for this Saturday night at Southwest Park. The display was cancelled for the Fourth of July because of wet field conditions.
