Center Street School conducted graduation services Tuesday evening. Amber Clark was named Outstanding Student. The Salutatorian is Cassidy Hayes with Breah Morlan as the Valedictorian. The American Legion Award Winners were Cassidy Hayes and Cameron Crawford. The Legion Award runners-up were Hannah Odom and Logan Trent.

cleveland23-year-old Christopher R. Cleveland of West Salem has been jailed on a felony charge of aggravated battery. Cleveland is accused of injuring a child under the age of 13. The child suffered rib injuries. Cleveland is being held in the White County jail at Carmi under $4,000 cash bond pending a first appearance, which has been set for this Friday in Edwards Count Circuit Court in Albion.

BURKE, MARTRAIL B paint28-year-old former Fairfield resident, Martrail B. Burke of Chicago has been arrested on a Wayne County warrant charging him with criminal sexual assault. Burke is accused of entering a home in Fairfield last January where he allegedly raped a woman. Police say Burke fled the area after the alleged assault. He was picked up in Chicago earlier this week and returned to the Wayne County jail where he is being held under $10,000 cash bond.

Two Fairfield women have been arrested after they allegedly entered 43-year-old Jason E. Schnepper’s home and roughed him up. The suspects are Jordie N. Herrin and Mollie A. Selph, both 19 of Fairfield. Both face charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.

A federal judge has allowed Gov. Bruce Rauner’s lawsuit over union fees paid by non-union workers to proceed without the governor. A judge has ruled that Rauner does not have sufficient interest in the matter to file the suit. However, non-union state employees who were added to the suit later will be allowed to press their case.

Bob BoylesFoundation Hall on the campus of Frontier Community College will be re-named Bob Boyles Hall this Thursday. The re-naming ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Boyles served the IECC District from 1981 until his retirement at the end of 2013. The public is encouraged to attend the re-naming ceremony.

Lawmakers have filed legislation that would automatically register Illinois residents to vote. The proposal would automatically register people to vote whenever they update or renew a driver’s license or state ID. Oregon enacted similar automatic registration this spring. Similar proposals are currently being considered in New Jersey and California.
