Joe Bowling Photo87-year-old McLeansboro resident, Joseph Martin Bowling died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, April 2 at his home. He had been a welder at Babcock and Wilcox in Mount Vernon, IN and Inland Steel Coal Mine at McLeansboro. A veteran of WW II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Storekeeper 3rd Class. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 106 and was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a member of the Elks Lodge 1882.

Survivors include three sons, William J. “Bill” and wife Jeannie Lynn Bowling of Mt. Vernon, Vincent E. and wife Cynthia Bowling of Herrin, IL and Frank M. Bowling of McLeansboro; two daughters, Renee’ Preston and husband Rick of Harrisburg and Mary Anne and husband John Dale Hopfinger of Dahlgren; a special friend, Wilma Karcher of Dahlgren; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Ann Ellis and husband Phillip of Fredricksburg, Va; four sisters-in-law, Peggy Vaupel and husband Wayne, Betty “Pat” Swartz, Caroline Bowling all of McLeansboro and Maxine Waggoner of Marshall, Ill.

Funeral services for Joseph Martin Bowling will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 at St. Clements Catholic Church with burial in St. Clements Cemetery. The church will open at 11 a.m.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 Monday evening, April 6 at St. Clement’s Catholic Church with a Rosary and Knights of Columbus Service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the St. Clements Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the church or the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
