81-year-old Wayne City resident, Georgia “Helen” Matthews died at 11:37 a.m. Sunday, March 29 at her home. She had worked at Western Union in Mt. Vernon until their closing and later at the Williamson Company for 17 years before retiring as a customer service representative.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Matthews of Wayne City; a son, Curt (Kim) Matthews of Odin, Ill.; a step-son, Jack Matthews of Rock Falls, Ill; a daughter, Diana (Steve) Weber of Wayne City; a step-daughter, Ruth (Ira) “Bo” Greenwalt of Morrison, Ill.; five sisters, Delores Hedden and Winnie Braddock of Wayne City, Mimi Meyer of Columbia, S.C.; Debbie Greene of Wayne City and Dereth Maxey of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Helen Matthews will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 at the Archie L. Sanders Chapel in Wayne City with burial in Thomason Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service at the Archie Sanders Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Helping Hands Ministry at Odin, Ill. and will be accepted at the chapel.
Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of all the arrangements.
