George E. Porter, 87, of Norris City died at 11:20 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL. He was a World War II Army veteran. George was a jack of all trades but had worked as a welder, in the oil fields and in auto body shops and was a member of the Norris City American Legion.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Laverta Bishop and Kay Bridwell both of Norris City and Sue and Ray Sampier of Hanna City, IL; a special friend, Freda Mercer of Norris City; seven grandchildren, Tammy Bishop, Brandon Bishop, Carrie Ann Guthrie, Kevin Sampier, Scott Sampier, Amber Sampier and Larissa Hays; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sons, John and Tommy Porter.
A celebration of George’s life will take place at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with burial to follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City with full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday, March 14 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
Memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Disabled American Vets and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
