A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening. Another four to six inches of snow could fall by late this afternoon. Snowfall totals will be lighter to the north of Wayne County. Snowfall should begin to taper off from west to east by early this evening.
Wayne County has been issued a $1,380 grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to enhance emergency planning and preparedness for hazardous materials incidents. The grant amount is based upon truck traffic through the county and fixed chemical facilities in the region.
The Wayne County 4-H Foundation has announced plans to build a new chicken and rabbit building at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. The project will cost an estimated $15,600. Organizers hope to raise enough funds to have the project done by this year’s Wayne County Fair.
If enough interest can be generated, Frontier Community College will be offering a Light Vehicle Diesel Service certificate program starting the fall semester. More information on the 6-hour program is available by contacting the college.
Wabash Telephone Cooperative and Wabash Independent Networks will be awarding $1,200 in scholarships to 2015 graduates in the area. The application deadline is Monday, March 2.
Retired Circuit Judge Stephen Sawyer of Mt. Carmel has been appointed to serve on the Department of Children and Family Services Children’s Justice Task Force. The Task Force was established to improve the investigative, administrative and judicial handling of child abuse and neglect cases.
