The City of Fairfield has been awarded a $250,000 Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity grant for renovations at the Fairfield City Police station located on Leininger Rd. The money will be used to make the structure handicap accessible. The project will include renovations to the lobby, and ADA compliant restroom, parking improvements and a drive-up handicapped accessible drop box for City of Fairfield utility payments.

Currier V of Golden Gate has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges he stabbed a man in Grayville last August and escaped from the White County jail last October. White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud says Currier was sentenced to 8 years in the stabbing case and a consecutive 5 years for the jail break. In pleading guilty, Currier admitted that he stabbed Dustin “Stitch” Robson in the abdomen during the Grayville Days celebration.

Following a six day jury trial, an Allendale man has been found guilty of a class-X felony charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. 78-year-old Wayne A. Welton will be sentenced on February 24 in Wabash County circuit Court.

clayton croppedFairfield Memorial Hospital is searching for a new Chief Financial Officer. The vacancy was posted on the hospital’s website this week following the resignation of Kathy Clayton. Clayton (Pictured at left) came to Fairfield in April of 2013 from the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, IN. More information about the vacancy is available on the hospital’s website.

Andrew Williams has been hired as a Financial Advisor at the Edward Jones office at 302 West Main Street in Fairfield. He replaces Christopher Conard who left the business last month.

25-year-old Clarence W. Hutchinson and 22-year-old Ricky L. Hutson of Wayne City were arrested Wednesday in Mount Carmel. Hutchinson was cited for driving on a suspended license and speeding. Hutson was cited for being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Wayne County Farm Bureau Foundation is offering six $500 scholarships to Wayne County youth who plan to major in an ag-related field of study for the fall 2015 semester. More information is available at the Farm Bureau office in Fairfield.
