The Fairfield City Council meets tonight starting at 6 p.m. A Public Hearing will be held to receive comments on the proposal to sell $9.5 million in bonds towards the construction of a transmission line for the city and related facilities, improvements and costs. Other action at tonight’s meeting includes the appointment of a City Attorney and Zoning Officer, and a vehicle purchase request from the Fairfield Fire Department.
29-year-old Seth D. Weathers of Louisville, KY was jailed Sunday night after he allegedly left his two sisters and a juvenile along the side of Interstate 64 at the 94-mile marker in western Wayne County. Police said the three siblings had gotten into an argument over the music they were listening to in the van. Police also noted an odor of alcohol on Seth D. Weathers’ breath, and later blew a .149 on a portable breath test. He was lodged in the Wayne County Jail on $300 bond.
31-year-old Michelle Locke of Enfield was arrested Friday night after she was found to be in possession of a small bag allegedly containing cannibis. Locke was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over on Court Street in Fairfield after the driver failed to signal when turning. Bond on Locke was set at $150 cash.
17-year-old Thomas J. Overbeck of Dietrich, IL was killed Monday afternoon in an accident on Illinois Route 33 about three miles west of Dietrich, IL. State police said the vehicle Overbeck was driving crossed the center line and hit a semi pulling a trailer head-on, driven by 48-year-old Jerry Cross of Willow Hill, IL. Cross had minor injuries but refused treatment. Overbeck was pronounced dead at the scene.
A survey of delegates and those attending last week’s 2014 Illinois Farm Bureau Meeting in Chicago, IL indicated that nearly 60 percent feel less optimistic about the farm economy in the coming year. The survey also showed that nearly 70 percent of farmers said they plan to reduce inputs and/or expenses in 2015. The farmers said the ways they intended to cut expenses included delaying equipment and chemical and fertilizer purchases, buying less expensive seed and choosing a lower level of crop insurance. 502 delegates, alternates and other Farm Bureau members attending the meeting were surveyed.
