A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Wayne and surrounding counties from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Monday.  Forecasters expect snowfall to develop late this afternoon and continue tonight and overnight, possibly mixing with some sleet at times, with one to three inches of snow possible by Monday morning.  Once the snow ends, colder weather is expected for Monday and Tuesday with highs in the mid 20′s and lows in the mid teens.  Temperatures are expected to remain below 40 through at least Friday, well below the average high temperature for mid-November.

The Edwards County school board meets Monday night at 7 in regular session.  Items expected to be discussed include approval of the 2014 tentative Tax Levy, and the adoption of several board policies, including those dealing with harassments of students and bullying and intimidation.

24-year-old John D. Kelly of Pinckneyville, IL was cited Friday afternoon following an accident in rural Hamilton County.  State police said Kelly was driving a pickup northbound on Illinois Route 142 just south of Hoodville when he reportedly fell asleep, causing the pickup to leave the roadway and hit an embankment.  He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.  State police cited him for improper lane usage and not wearing a seat belt.  The official cause of the wreck remains under investigation.

The Wayne County Corn Growers will conduct their annual Policy Development session this Wednesday.  The session will start with lunch at 5 Brothers Restaurant in Fairfield at noon before moving to the Extension Office.  Policy resolutions developed locally will be taken to the Illinois Corn Growers, and resolutions adopted there will be debated at the national level this coming July.

Area farmers with questions about programs included in the 2014 Farm Bill are being invited to attend one of several informational meetings in the area on Wednesday, December 10th.  Locally, the meetings will be held at 1 p.m. at Frontier Community College’s Foundation Hall in Fairfield, at 8 a.m. at the Edwards County Farm Bureau office, and at 7 p.m. at the White County Farm Bureau office in Carmi.  During the meetings, Doug Yoder, senior director of affiliate and risk management for the Illinois Farm Bureau, will provide information to help farmers make decisions for their operations.  Reservations for the meetings are requested by calling 842-3342 or 842-7602.
