The Illinois Attorney Disciplinary Commission has suspended the law license of Fairfield attorney Richard Dudley Borah after he wrongfully used more than $140,000 of his mother’s estate.  Borah’s license has been suspended for two years, effective December 4th.  He’s also been ordered to complete the ARDC’s Professionalism Seminar before he will be authorized to practice law again.  Hearing records revealed Borah misused the money from the estate of his mother, Geneva Borah who died in 2003.  Borah also filed a false accounting in which he claimed he held over $65,000 of estate funds in a trust account.  As part of the disciplinary action, Borah will have to show proof of restitution to four siblings who were beneficiaries of the Geneva Borah estate.

54-year-old Charles D. Legg of Fairfield was arrested Thursday after police learned he had moved into a house across the street from Fairfield Community High School.   Legg was found living in a house less than 500 feet from the high school, a violation of the Illinois Sex Offender statutues.  Legg is listed as a sexual predator by the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry, and was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 9 and 16 in Montana.  Legg was jailed on charges of being a sex offender living too close to the school and failure to register his new address with local law enforcement.

Fairfield police are warning residents about another telephone scam.  The latest scam involves residents receiving a pre-recorded message claiming to come from the Internal Revenue Service.  The message informs residents that they have failed to pay their taxes, and if they don’t immediately pay, their bank account will be cleaned out and their drivers license revoked.  The IRS never contacts taxpayers by pre-recorded messages, and anyone getting such a message should simply hang up.

24-year-old John D. Kelly of Pinckneyville, IL was cited for improper lane usage and not wearing a seat belt following an accident in Hamilton County late Friday afternoon.  State police Kelly was northbound on Illinois Route 142 near Hoodville around 4:50 p.m. Friday and reportedly fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and hit an embankment.  Kelly was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The Wayne County Corn Growers will conduct their annual Policy Development session this Wednesday, November 19th starting at noon with lunch at Five Brothers Restaurant and then moving to the Extension Office.  Corn Growers President Gregg Barnard says policy resolutions developed locally will be taken to the Illinois Corn Growers, and resolutions adopted there will be debated at the national level this coming July.  Barnard says Wayne County has a history of presenting proposals that are eventually debated at the state and national level.

The Illinois State Bar Association is planning to challenge the state’s DUI law.  They want to change the provision that allows anyone who has marijuana in their system to be charged with a DUI, even if their use of pot was not concurrent with the time of the crash.  The bar association says the law should only apply to illegal drug users if they were impaired at the time of the crash.
