leggA convicted sexual predator from Fairfield, Ill. was arrested Thursday after police learned he had moved into a house across the street from the local high school.  Charles D. Legg, 54 was found living at 107 West College Avenue in Fairfield, which was less than 500 feet from the Fairfield Community High School.  The Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry lists Legg as a sexual predator who was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 9 and 16.  Court records reveal the offense happened in Montana. Legg was 41-years-old at the time while the victim was 9.  Legg remains in the Wayne County jail on formal charges of being a sex offender living too close to a school and failure to register his new address with local law enforcement as required by law.

For the third year in a row, the Edwards County Lady Lions volleyball team will be competing for the Class 2-A championship. The Lady Lions will meet Deer Creek Mackinaw at noon today at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal. If they win, they will play for the championship title Saturday at 1:55 p.m.  The team will be greeted with a parade and celebration to follow at the high school at about 8:30 Saturday night.

levi cropMitchell Levi, a member of the Cisne FFA Chapter from Cisne, Illinois, was a national finalist in the 2014 National FFA Agriscience Fair at the 87th National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisville, KY.  Levi earned a Silver Medal and placed 12th in the Power, Structural and Technical Systems Division 1 competition. The National FFA Agriscience Fair is a competition for FFA members who are interested in the science and technology of agriculture. It is held each year during the National FFA Convention & Expo and sponsored nationally by Cargill, John Deere and Syngenta.

??????????The road leading to Southwest Park in Fairfield will be re-named Billy Bruce Lane during a special ceremony Saturday morning at 10 a.m.  Billy Bruce died in August of this year. He was 55.  Mr. Bruce was a charter member and served as vice president of the Fairfield Girls Softball Association and was a longtime coach and umpire. He was also the head Girls Softball coach at Cisne Middle School and Cisne High School. The public is encouraged to attend the dedication ceremony.

 

Fire heavily damaged the home of Donald Bielecki, Jr. Thursday morning. Fairfield Rural Fire Department members responded to the blaze shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.  The house was located on Ill. Rt. 15 near the Wayne County Landfill.

The Saline County Courthouse in Harrisburg was evacuated Thursday morning when someone phoned in a bomb threat. A bomb squad from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office joined local police in searching the building. Nothing was found and employees were allowed back in the courthouse at 8:45 a.m.

The Fairfield Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade has been set for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m.  Entry forms for the parade need to be returned to the Kiwanis Club no later than Wednesday, Nov. 26.  If you need further information, contact Phyllis Hilliard at 842-7486.
