Salem, IL held its Relay For Life event Friday night and Saturday morning.  Reports say the event raised a total of $79,654 just short of a goal of $90,000.  Reports also said the event was delayed for 45 minutes due to rain in the area.  The top fundraising team was North American Lighting, raising $18,596.  Wayne County’s Relay For Life was held last weekend at Leo French Park and raised $24,704, not counting any money to be turned in later.  This was the 11th year for the Relay for Life in Salem, while Wayne County’s Relay for Life has been held for about the past 15 years.

The city of Fairfield’s fire and water departments will be flow testing fire hydrants throughout the city beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.  During the flushing process, residents could notice a slight loss in water pressure and a temporary discoloration of the water.  Those with questions can call the city water department at 842-7015.

Area producers are being reminded that the deadline to file an acreage report for spring seeded crops, including corn, soybeans, oats and grain sorghum is July 15th.  Producers should contact their local county FSA office if they are unsure about the actual acreage reporting deadlines, as the date may vary in some areas depending on the climate they experienced.

Entertainment for this year’s Corn Days in Carmi has been announced.  Performers will include singer-songwriter Josh Thompson and country newcomer Leah Turner.  Thompson performs over 200 shows a year, and has established himself as a noted songwriter in Nashville.  Turner was recently named Taste of Country’s #1 Woman to Watch in country music.  The Carmi Kiwanis Club will be staging this year’s Corn Days event.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Officer of Law Enforcement is seeking qualified applicants to take the written exam for Conservation Police Officer Trainee.  The exam will be offered July 14th through 17th at several sites around the state.  In our region the test will be offered on a walk-in basis in Marion, IL.   Applicants will need to bring a completed CMS-100 application to the assessment center on the day of testing.  More information is available by calling (217) 785-8407.
